ABOUT  TIM

While in college studying to complete a Natural Science major, I began work on an art major.  In some ways this seemed like a monumental change in direction, however the more I pursued my work in clay and glazes, I realized that this was merely an extension of the same quest.  The Materials Science involved in the complex interaction of chemicals within ceramic glazes became at the same time a scientific and aesthetic pursuit.

For years my artistic endeavors existed in a separate world from my professional careers.  That delightfully changed in 2016 when I was given the opportunity to add the title of Art Teacher to my resume.  Teaching art not only provided me with the opportunity to spend more time in the studio, but has also fundamentally transformed my approach to teaching science.  After all, the best science teaching is hands-on and tremendously creative, and the best art is passionately experimental.

Whether in the more organic appearing wood fired works or the pristine crystalline glazed porcelains, I hope you can appreciate the dialogue between the realms of Science and Art.
